Welcome to The Salvation Army Portland Tabernacle. Whether this is your first time visiting or you have been here before, we want you to know you are welcome here and you are loved by Jesus. It's been said that every ministry is unique. If you have visited other churches, you know this to be true. It is our desire that through this web site you will gain a sense of our heart and vision, as well as become familiar with the various ministries that take place within our church family. The teaching is relevant and the worship is passionate, in a warm and loving environment. Wherever you are in life, we have a place for you to connect with God and with people. We hope you join us on Sunday morning and consider making us your church family.

We have ministries for children of all ages on Sunday. We also have a nursery and cry room. We invite our children (ages 6-12) to join with us during the worship time and then they will be dismissed to junior church before teaching time. An usher can help you find your child's room. A nursery is also provided for infants and children up to 5 years of age
If you have family with special needs, we would love to serve you. There is wheel chair access throughout our facility.
It is important to us that we connect with you. With that in mind, you will find a welcome card attached to the Sunday Program. Please fill that out and return it to the prayer box at the back of the chapel, place it in with the offering, or hand it to one of our greeters. We also host a complimentary Getting to Know the Family Luncheon 4 times per year. You and your family can enjoy a meal with our pastoral staff and leadership, hear about our vision and ministries, and have your questions and concerns answered. If you are interested in being invited to a luncheon, please let us know in the comments section of the welcome card and you will be contacted.
You will find some people dressed in Salvation Army uniform, you will find some in their "Sunday best", with suits and ties, and others in jeans and tees. We care about the heart, not what you wear!

Many people see The Salvation Army only as red kettles at Christmas time or a place to drop off used clothing, but at its very heart, The Salvation Army is a Christian church with a mission to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ. We believe our faith calls us to roll up our sleeves and get to work: to meet the material and emotional needs of a person while we minister to them spiritually through acts of love and service.
That's why our Worship and Service Centers are not only places of Sunday worship for a regular community of believers, but also places that offer programs to meet the human needs of our community. Our ministry is bound by our hearts that are in love with Jesus and our actions to share Christ's Love through service to others.
The Salvation Army's eleven articles of faith reflect our determination to remain faithful to our standards and principles.
